About
me
Hi, I’m Nicholas Bailey, a self-taught potter working from my home studio in Winchester. My journey into pottery began during the Covid lockdown, when I transformed my small downstairs bathroom into a makeshift workspace. What started as a quiet escape became something deeper—a ritual of making, a way of thinking, and the start of a creative life I hadn’t expected
My work is shaped by instinct. I handbuild each piece slowly, letting the clay guide the form. Texture, movement, and imperfection are at the heart of what I create, forms that feel unearthed rather than designed, like fragments of something ancient or remembered
I’m drawn to erosion, to the softness that comes with time. Some pieces feel sculptural and raw, others more refined—but all carry something of the moment they were made in. I don’t chase perfection. I chase feeling
